Just curious.. through someone I know that's fair high up on MS in a country, had a chance to try it this weekend (hey, he warned me, did I really want to.). Well, I can only assume the kiddies believe winsupersite as a spot on it's the truth site. While some things were nicer it broke just as much as it fixed... IE7 had some issues, raid controller broke, epson scanner de nada, canon scanner de nada, sound issues, some major disk thrashing... needless to say he made me do a image of my beta 2 before he'd let me try. And then that's why he said (somewhat smugly) is why interm builds are not released to the public. I was glad to go back to beta2. Quite frankly, I didn't notice any huge speed increases like has been claimed either. But the moral of the story is, I've learned and I'll wait for RC1. Sure, maybe some will have nothing but a good experience but on the other hand......

Why do the kiddies want ver 5456 so bad?
Newest isn't always best.
Even though interim builds have the newest fixes and freshest features, there is a price paid for running them ... in reliability and stability :)

Interim builds or so-called "milestone builds" with respect to Vista can be defined as the builds that are released to shut people up and stop the sutpid immature "Wendy can we have the next" incessant posts by Beta testers, so-called TBT's. A high percent of the 7.5% of them who post on newsgroupswho are age 8 emotionally in adult bodies. They slap a new build number on it, call it an interim build, BS about how attentive they are to bugs while closing most of them and passing the bug onto the next number.
I can show you significant bugs in features that are major in Vista that haven't been fixed in a year and won't be fixed long after Blackcomb Vienna has had it's been publicity foreplay that are a reflection of poor planning in the first place and indiffrence and mediocrite ("phoning Vista in" in the last.

Peter--
The fastest way to "speed increases" for Vista or any other OS aren't new builds for sure; it's better hardware predominantly and good Windozzz hygeine defrag, run spyware scans, cut processes and services you don't need. If you ain't runnin' no media center then why do you need 3 media center processes and several media center services on as a default. That's typical MSFT behavior. Wisptis as a process that is hard to end shows up with any application remotely related to Office. Wisptis facilitates pen computing specifically for tablet pcs--not other input devices.. Maybe I lead a sheltered life, but I haven't noticed that tablets are universally used although they get better and better fast.
You may see setup speed increase with builds, but a new build is not likely to be faster in Vista at this point although maybe there is a surprise there.

So Far I am quite happy with Vista Beta 2. I can wait for RC1. I do not need to have the latest build. I know that these interim builds can be quite flakey.

Chad, the milestones for Vista are the firsts builds of Beta 1, Beta 2, RC1, and the release. The builds in between are the interims. 5456 is an interim.

Yep I know what they are Colin and it doesn't change anything I said. Major parts of Vista that should never have been broken ain't getting fixed. It's mostly about the money.

Don't you think you're being a tad unfair? I mean, you're making accusations about beta testers and Microsoft beta team members that I've never found to be true.
Know exactly what you're talking about, and have proof before making these types of accusations.

Nancy--
Of course I know exactly what I'm talking about. I see it right now.
I qualfied it by saying a part. I don't think I'm being unfair and all you have to do is open your eyes. Everything I said can be documented. If you can show me substantive documentation on the major features of Vista anywhere that isn't a non-MSFT book for sale, I'd love to see it.
The Vista Product Guide is an insult to anyone who wants substantive technical info on the beta. I would think from what I'm seeing here that recovering operating systems is somewhat important. If you can show me any significant documentation on a MSFT site for this information seven weeks after Vista has been released to the public, please do.
If you can show me how System Restore losing restore points or production of them has been fixed, let me know. If you can tell me why SFC /verifynow which doesn't fix anything is the way it should work a year into Vista, let me know.
